Healed from 23 Years of Hearing Loss

About 23 years ago, I hit my head against a wall and lost all hearing in my right ear. Though the doctor said that my eardrum was fine, I couldn’t hear a thing. Even after coming to Korea, I continued to suffer from ear discharge, and neither medication nor hospital treatments helped. Eventually, I gave up, thinking, ‘I guess I just have to live like this.’
Since coming to Korea in 2002, I’ve endured tough jobs to make a living, going through knee, back, and arm surgeries. Nearly twenty years passed with my life of faith completely cut off. In recent years especially, the loss of family members and accidents led me to struggle with depression and memory decline?it felt as if my whole life was falling apart.
Then one day in April 2025, Senior Deaconess Mija Choi who lives in the same building, warmly reached out to me. I had always turned her down, saying I was too busy. But that day, my heart was different. On Sunday, April 27, I registered at the church and attended worship. From then on, I daily listened to Pastor Soojin Lee’s Only Bible sermons that she sent me and began to regain peace of mind. I was also spiritually comforted through the recorded Prayer for the Sick by Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Jaerock Lee.
On Monday, May 12, I was invited to attend the Daniel Prayer Meeting with Senior Deaconess Choi. During the praise time, I sang along with hymns I used to know and was deeply moved. During the prayer time, Deaconess Choi laid the handkerchief of God’s power on which Pastor Emeritus prayed on my right ear and earnestly prayed for me.
At that moment, a deep and burning emotion rose from within. With tears, I poured out a confession of repentance for the 20 years I had lived away from God. Around 10 p.m. that night, on my way home, I suddenly felt as if I could hear something in my right ear which had been deaf.
When I got home, I held my phone up to that ear and checked the ringtone and some recorded messages. To my amazement, I could hear them clearly! For the first time in 23 years, I could clearly hear voices, ringtones, and everything through the ear that had been completely deaf.
Overflowing with joy, I called my friends and husband to share the news. Even my husband who hadn’t attended church showed deep interest in this amazing event, and later began watching Sunday worship service videos I sent him.
Now, the Word has become the light of my life, and I’m receiving much grace through The Message of the Cross sermon series. I also feel God’s presence through the Prayer for the Sick. I hope this testimony of healing from 23 years of hearing loss will serve as a testimony of faith to others facing the same hardship. I give all thanks and glory to God who healed me. Hallelujah!
